In pursuing personal achievements and continuous progress, nearly everyone sets a role model for themselves. A role model serves as a guiding light, illuminating the path forward, and acts as a friend who consistently motivates and inspires inner strength. In the battle against cancer and the quest for renewed life, a patient who triumphs over cancer becomes a beacon of hope, warming the hearts of many who feel helpless.

On August 17, 2024, the "You and Me, Together on the Road of Fighting Against Cancer" Malaysia Special sharing session, organized by the International Volunteer Service Center of the Belt and Road Initiative Tumor Integrated Medicine Training Base (Guangdong) of the CACA, was successfully held at St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital in Guangzhou. During the event, Malaysian patient Mr. Chen shared his journey in battling cancer, offering encouragement and support to the patients in attendance.

Mr. Chen's Presentation

Mr. Chen is a patient diagnosed with a thyroid tumor and a secondary malignant spinal tumor. He has an 8 cm mass in his neck and was previously at risk of paralysis. At the end of last year, he sought treatment at St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou for the first time. This marks his third hospitalization. The treatment resulted in minimal side effects, significantly improving his health. He expressed that the care he received at St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou allowed him to experience life in Guangzhou and connect with many fellow patients.

Mr. Chen shared his experience in battling cancer. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a good mental attitude when confronting cancer. Although the threat of the disease can cause anxiety, one must not dwell on it; instead, it's essential to engage in positive self-affirmation and believe in recovery. Alongside cooperating with doctors' treatment, he advised giving oneself enough attention and ensuring good nutrition, sleep, and energy replenishment.

When discussing how to foster a positive relationship with the hospital that provides care, Mr. Chen shared a popular and insightful saying: "If the hospital treats the patient as a treasure, the patient will treat the hospital as a cherished companion. He is currently experiencing this mutual appreciation.

Certificate awarding

After the presentation, Ms. Liu Yansheng, Assistant Director of the International Affairs Department at St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, awarded Mr. Chen an honorary certificate as an anti-cancer star volunteer with a gift to express her gratitude for his selfless sharing of the spirit of love.

To promote nutritional knowledge and assist patients in actively combating cancer, The MCHG nutritionists are dedicated to providing support and guidance. The hospital specially prepared relevant course materials to educate patients and their families about nutrition related to cancer prevention. Following the presentation, detailed answers were provided to address the nutritional challenges faced by patients and their families in their daily lives.

The lightning round

To enhance patients' understanding of nutrition, an engaging quiz with prizes was conducted on-site. In a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, everyone had the opportunity to learn about health and enrich the hospital experience for both patients and their families.

Free discussion

In the warm atmosphere of the event, the relationships among patients grew increasingly close. In this beautiful environment of communication, we learned that many family members of patients take the initiative to assist those who come to the hospital alone for treatment while caring for their relatives. They embody the spirit of great love through their practical actions.

Patients receiving treatment in the hospital are not isolated individuals. They benefit from the attentive care of medical staff, the support and companionship of family and friends, and the inspiring examples set by cancer survivors. I hope that every patient can cultivate confidence in their battle against cancer and actively engage in their treatment. St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, established 19 years ago, has served tens of thousands of cancer patients. With ongoing technological advancements and an enriched treatment experience, the hospital remains committed to its “patient-centered” service philosophy and is dedicated to safeguarding the health of cancer patients.
