Diagnosed with stage II breast cancer, I chose minimally invasive treatment

My name is Indahwati Iwan, from Surabaya, Indonesia. From 2011 to 2023, I have successfully fought cancer for 12 years. From the panic and anxiety when I was first diagnosed to being called an anti-cancer star and anti-cancer ambassador by many people today, I have been through a lot, and my anti-cancer experience tells me that when cancer strikes, early diagnosis, early treatment, choosing the right anti-cancer method and maintaining a good attitude are the key factors for successful anti-cancer.

In 2023, my husband and I participated in the anti-cancer star volunteer return to base activity

On November 4, 2011, when I was attending the Canton Fair in Guangzhou, I went to the hospital for a physical examination because of diarrhea. I was accidentally diagnosed with a 1.5cm mass in my right breast and was diagnosed with stage II invasive ductal carcinoma of my right breast. At first, I was a little depressed and scared, but after repeated consideration, I adopted the interventional treatment plan formulated by the MDT of St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou. The doctor and translator patiently explained the treatment plan to me and gave me a clear understanding of the treatment process, which made me feel at ease.

On November 9, 2011, I underwent breast-conserving surgery. To consolidate the curative effect, I underwent 4 Interventional Therapies after the surgical treatment. During the treatment, I didn’t experience any serious side effects, such as weakness, vomiting, or hair loss. I ate and slept as usual and the treatment didn't take long. I participated in many activities held by the hospital for patients, such as birthdays and traditional cultural activities. The hospital also provides medical travel services for patients and family members, so that we no longer feel bored and anxious. This service may not be available in other hospitals, so we were satisfied and had a relaxing and unforgettable time-fighting cancer.

After successfully fighting cancer, my cancer never came back

Three months later, my treatment ended. The results of the pre-discharge examination showed that there were no abnormal hypermetabolic lesions in the tumor site or elsewhere. My family and I were very happy. The stone in my heart fell instantly after seeing the result. I finally defeated cancer. The doctors, nurses, and translators happily sent me out of the hospital. After I was discharged from the hospital, my husband accompanied me on a trip, and we went to all the places I wanted to visit. Fortunately, almost no one could find that I had been a cancer patient. I feel very happy, and I’m also very grateful to St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou for allowing me to experience life again.

In 2014, I came to the hospital for a review and to strengthen my immunity. The doctor and medical staff warmly welcomed me. When I came to the hospital again and saw them, I felt as if I were meeting family members, it’s warm and friendly. I’m so happy that the examination results showed no signs of tumor recurrence and all indicators were normal. The doctor and medical staff learned that this year it would be my 50th wedding anniversary and they were preparing a Chinese-style golden wedding ceremony for me. My husband and I were so surprised and touched. My husband has always been with me in life and during the hard fight against cancer. I’m very grateful to him and hope that he will always be healthy.

Returned to St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou for review in 2014
In 2014, St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou held a golden wedding ceremony for my husband and I to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary.

St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou has become my second home

In August 2017, my husband accompanied me back to the hospital for a review and to strengthen my immunity. Since I started receiving treatment in 2011, my tumor has never recurred and I’m in great spirits. Every time I go back to the hospital for a follow-up check-up, I feel as cordial as going home. I can successfully get rid of breast cancer. Thanks to the help of the hospital, I hope St. Stamford Modern Hospital Guangzhou will get better and better!

In 2017, I went back to the hospital for a follow-up check-up, and the nurse was so sweet to visit me.

Six years have passed and my condition is stable and has never recurred.

In June 2018, accompanied by my husband, I returned to St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou for follow-up and to strengthen my immunity. It was the Dragon Boat Festival, and my husband and I, together with cancer patients from Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, and other countries, participated in the Dragon Boat Festival celebration organized by the hospital, watched the dragon boat race and tasted dragon boat rice.

On June 18, 2018, I cheered for the dragon boat team at the Chebei Dragon Boat Race.

Not only am I a anti-cancer star, but I have successfully fought cancer for 12 years!

In September 2023, after four years, my family and I came to the hospital again for follow-up and to strengthen my immunity. After arriving at the hospital, the doctor and medical staff enthusiastically embraced us in their arms. We had not seen each other for 4 years, and we all missed each other. “I'm kinder because I've experienced it”After being discharged from St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou in 2012, I have been actively participating in various anti-cancer activities. I hope that more cancer patients can actively fight cancer like me, receive high-quality treatment, and achieve good health. My relatives and friends have come with me for treatment many times. Their feelings are the same as mine. In the warm treatment atmosphere, we all regained our health.

In September 2023, my family and I sent blessings to cancer patients

In November 2023, I will return to St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou as an anti-cancer star after 12 years of fighting cancer. This time I came to participate in the "In Long Years of Fighting Cancer Feeling Warm in Modern Cancer Hospital" anti-cancer stars return to base event. The hospital staff picked us up at the airport with flowers in hand, making me feel warm again. On November 15, 2023, I participated in this event together with 8 other anti-cancer stars from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and other countries. At the event, anti-cancer stars shared their experiences and feelings during the anti-cancer process. Their tenacity and positive attitude deeply moved me and made me feel full of strength.

I hope that friends who are fighting cancer not be afraid, keep a positive attitude, communicate more with family and friends, and talk to them more. As long as we detect early, diagnose early, and choose the right treatment in time, we will be able to successfully fight cancer!

Introduction to Minimally Invasive Technique

Interventional therapy, under the guidance of medical imaging equipment, the use of special guide wire and other precision instruments to directly inject anti-tumor drugs 2~8 times higher than the intravenous drip drug concentration into the tumor, and at the same time embolize the blood supply artery of the tumor, to achieve the purpose of tumor shrinkage or even disappearance.

1. It has the advantages of small trauma, few complications, safety and fast recovery.
2. It is suitable for patients with poor effect of traditional radiotherapy and chemotherapy, unwilling or unsuitable for surgery.
