Ms. Lin Wenda, a patient from Indonesia, was diagnosed with endometrial adenocarcinoma in May 2024. Following comprehensive minimally invasive treatments, including interventional therapy and argon-helium cryoablation at St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, her condition showed significant improvement, and imaging results indicated the tumor had been effectively treated.

Menstruation lasts for more than one month and cancer is diagnosed

In May 2024, Ms. Lin, at the age of 51, experienced an unexpected resumption of menstruation after having ceased for several months. This menstrual episode persisted for over a month without cessation, which was highly unusual as her previous cycles typically lasted one week.

Accompanied by her family, she immediately went to Jakarta to see a gynecologist. An ultrasound revealed the presence of a fibroid measuring approximately 14x9mm. Given her history of fibroid surgery in Penang in 2010, Ms. Lin decided to return to Penang to consult her previous physician. Following a thorough examination, Ms. Lin underwent surgery based on her doctor's recommendation. Initially, she anticipated that only the fibroid would be removed; however, post-surgery, she was informed that the uterus, ovaries, lymph nodes, and surrounding tissues were also excised due to the discovery of a tumor.

The postoperative pathology report for Ms. Lin revealed endometrial adenocarcinoma, with the tumor invading the myometrium, involving the cervical stroma, uterine adnexa, and greater omentum. Additionally, the left ovarian tumor was completely infiltrated and ruptured.

Subsequently, the gynecologist referred Ms. Lin to the oncology department. When seeking further treatment from the oncologist in Penang, Ms. Lin and her family were advised that they would need to wait for a month. During this waiting period, they came across information about St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou on social media.

Learning about minimally invasive treatments gave them new ideas

The minimally invasive therapy at St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou allowed them to see different medical knowledge. After discussing with her family, Ms. Lin searched for relevant information and came to the International Service Center in Jakarta for consultation. The consultants introduced them to minimally invasive treatments that could be used to treat the condition. The advantages of minimally invasive treatments such as less pain and lower side effects made Ms. Lin’s family very excited. After fully understanding the situation in the hospital, they decided not to wait for doctors in Penang and instead went to Guangzhou to seek further treatment.
On June 4, 2024, the weak Ms. Lin, accompanied by symptoms such as nausea and vomiting, came to St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou accompanied by her family.

After six months of treatment, the tumor was considered cured based on imaging studies.

Unlike the previous long waits for a doctor's availability, Ms. Lin was given a detailed treatment plan the day after her admission. Dr. Lin Jing, the head of Ward 6, conducted an initial physical examination and discovered a firm mass approximately 4cm*5cm in the patient's lower right abdomen, with clear boundaries and mild tenderness. A similar firm mass, about 4cm*5cm, was also palpable in the lower outer quadrant of the right breast. Additionally, a 3cm*4cm mass with mild tenderness was found on the right buttock, suggesting multiple metastases. On June 6th, Ms. Lin underwent a needle biopsy, and the results confirmed the doctors' assessment of her condition.

After the detailed full-body examination results came out, the hospital's MDT medical team quickly organized a study and judgment, and initially formulated a treatment plan of "interventional treatment + argon-helium knife cryoablation" based on Ms. Lin's condition.
On June 13, 2024, Ms. Lin received the first course of "TC" interventional treatment. Just 4 days later, Director Lin Jing checked the patient and said: After the treatment, the patient's nausea and pain symptoms improved, and the surface tumors were significantly reduced and softened. On June 18, Director He Jianyu of the Minimally Invasive Room performed CT-guided percutaneous abdominal cavity + left axillary tumor cryoablation for Ms. Lin's larger tumors in the abdominal cavity and body surface. After the operation, Ms. Lin recovered well and was discharged from the hospital 3 days later, completing her first treatment.

In the next 6 months, Ms. Lin was hospitalized for follow-up visits once a month and received 6 interventional treatments. During this period, her tumor continued to shrink, and her condition continued to improve when we interviewed her. The whole-body PET-CT on November 7th compared with that in June showed metastasis to the fourth rib on the right side. After treatment, the activity was suppressed. Multiple enlarged lymph nodes and soft tissue masses in the abdomen and pelvis, subcutaneous tissue of the right chest wall, left axilla and right neck were reduced in size and number compared with before, with only a small part remaining.
Ms. Lin achieved an initial victory in her battle with cancer.

Minimally invasive treatment, truly worthy of the name
Ms. Lin said that after learning about minimally invasive treatment, she mainly wanted to give it a try. After the treatment, she found that minimally invasive treatment was indeed worthy of its name, with minimal trauma and little pain. Moreover, the treatment course is short, so even though she has to go abroad for treatment, she will not be separated from her family for too long. The only side effect that occurred was hair loss, which was rarely seen in other patients, but Ms. Lin said that everything was worth it. Her body was gradually improving. After treatment, the symptoms of pain disappeared, and her strength and energy were restored.

Ms. Lin said that they were also worried about going abroad for treatment, but the various services such as in-hospital translation, airport pick-up, and medical tourism made them completely relieved when they were admitted to the hospital for the first time. The doctor will give them a clear analysis of the condition, the nurse will provide timely help, and the patient activities in the hospital enrich their hospital life. She was happy that she chose St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou.

Ms. Lin was smiling all the time during the interview. Her optimistic attitude made it impossible for people to see the negative impact that cancer had on her. Her family, except for being shocked when they first learned the news, firmly encouraged her to receive treatment. Even her mother, who is in her seventies, has been cheering her on, telling her that treatment technology is very advanced now and she will definitely get better. Surrounded by optimism and love, Ms. Lin is always full of courage. She is grateful for the encouragement of her relatives and friends, and also pays attention to controlling her diet and maintaining good living habits after she became ill. She said: "Cancer may be terrible, but advanced treatments will make cancer cells in the body weaker and weaker. I hope everyone can maintain an optimistic attitude and believe that they will get better and better."
