Nightmare: The tumor returned, and my mom had only a few months left to survive
I’m the daughter of lung cancer patient Vuong Thi Hoa. In October 2022, when I accompanied my mother for a regular physical examination, we accidentally found that her lungs were swollen. To confirm her condition, I immediately took her to a Singapore hospital for a biopsy, which showed lung cancer.
Good fortune does not always favor us. During a follow-up appointment in March of this year, the doctor informed me that my mom's health was stable, which allowed me to finally relax. However, that peace was short-lived. During a re-examination in August, I was once again plunged into despair—news of my mother’s lung tumor recurrence hit me like a bolt from the blue, filling my heart with fear and apprehension. Once again, her life was at risk, and the doctors told her there were no treatment options available; she only had a few months left to live. This left me feeling completely lost and directionless.

Faced with such desperate news, I asked myself countless times: "Should I just give up treatment?" I couldn't imagine that my mom's life might pass away quietly in front of my eyes. At this time, my relatives recommended St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou to me, saying that their minimally invasive treatment technology might bring new hope. With a glimmer of hope, I decided to take my mother to Guangzhou, China for treatment.

After a detailed examination at St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, it was confirmed that my mom's lung tumor had recurred in situ with multiple lymph node metastases. Considering that she was 79 years old and had numerous underlying diseases, the MDT developed cryoablation and interventional therapy for her. Compared with traditional treatment plans, it is more suitable for elderly patients, patients with recurrence, and patients who cannot tolerate the pain of systemic chemotherapy.
Cryoablation involves inserting a cryoprobe into the cancerous tissue of a tumor, guided by ultrasound or CT imaging. The probe rapidly freezes the tissue to a temperature below -160°C, followed by a rewarming process. This cycle causes the cancer cells to dehydrate and rupture, while also damaging the small blood vessels within the tumor, leading to cell death due to lack of oxygen. Interventional therapy, on the other hand, focuses on accurately delivering anti-tumor drugs directly to the tumor. This technique is also guided by imaging equipment and aims to minimize damage to surrounding healthy tissue, significantly reducing harm to the body.
On September 4, 2024, my mom successfully underwent cryoablation. After the treatment, she didn’t feel any pain or discomfort. On September 10, at my insistence, the doctor performed interventional therapy for her again, which was also smooth and without obvious side effects. During the follow-up examination on October 6, the CT results showed that the tumor in my mom's lung had shrunk by about 50%. Seeing my mom's health gradually recover and her mental state significantly improve, I feel that all the efforts are worth it. I sincerely thank St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou for making my mother smile again!
Accompanying my mother for treatment, this hospital is worth choosing!
Looking back on the journey of accompanying my mother in her fight against cancer, from Singapore to Guangzhou, I met many cancer patients and shared our stories. Although everyone's condition is different and they come from different countries, I firmly believe that as long as you choose the right hospital and treatment plan, follow the doctor's advice, and face it positively, you will be able to defeat cancer and usher in a new life!
