Chong Fui Min told us that after combined treatments of interventional therapy, natural therapy and chemotherapy in St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, he now could support to jog for an hour. "I used to have difficulty in breathing when I walked."he added. Besides, his previous symptoms like fever, night sweats, fatigue, lethargy, pain, breathing difficulties disappeared and he gained 12kg weight instead. He is now in a stable condition which only requires regular half- year revisit to the hospital.

Unfortunately haunted by cancer, face it peacefully

Chong Fui Min was misdiagnosed as leukemia in late 2015, when he went to local hospital because of fever, night sweats and difficulty in breathing as well as fatigue, dizziness and pain. On hearing of being diagnosed as cancer, most people feel sad and depressed, Chong Fui Min, instead, accepted it peacefully. He says, "One of my friends left in his fifties, for me, there is no regret to leave in my seventies."

Refuse single chemotherapy and turn to combined therapies

After diagnosis, Chong Fui Min was advised to have some medicine, however, as time went on, it turned out to be ineffective. What’s worse, great drug adverse effect brought him stomach discomfort and poor appetite, he thus lost his weight. Later on, local doctor suggested chemotherapy, but he turned it down. He was once a medical assistant and he knew it well that it would be hard for him to endure the great side effect of chemotherapy in his age and bad condition. "My families also say no to chemotherapy, since we have friends and relatives in Malaysia who did chemotherapy and they left eventually."Chong Fui Min says. As Chong Fui Min was getting worse and worse, his families were very worried and looked around for better treatment.

Chong Fui Min and his attending doctor

By chance, his daughter-in-law and daughter happened to know the symposium held by St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou in Kota Kinabalu. So they accompanied Chong Fui Min to attend the talk and consult expert there. After the consultation, Chong Fui Min had a better knowledge of 18 minimally invasive technologies in St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, he seemed to see the light of hope. "As we all know, in Malaysia, there are only three major therapy for cancer: surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, while in St. Stanford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, they have 18 anti-cancer technologies and traditional Chinese medicine for cancer treatment."said Chong Fui Min.

Besides advanced cancer technology, reasonable price is another major element for Chong’s consideration and choice to China. "Originally my daughter was going to let me go to Australia to treat cancer, but the cost of Australia is too expensive, it’s four times more than the cost in China, and there is no traditional Chinese medicine in Australia. Eventually, I chose to come here."said Chong Fui Min.

Combined therapies brought condition back to normality

On Dec. 23th, 2015, accompanied by his wife and daughter, Chong Fui Min arrived in St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou. He was diagnosed with lymphoma instead of leukemia after a series of detailed body checkup. Based on his case, the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) tailored him a treatment plan with interventional therapy, natural therapy and chemotherapy.

"After the first course of treatment, I felt my body began to take a favorable turn; my appetite became better, and other discomforts relieved." Chong Fui Min said, "So far, I have done a total of 7 times interventional therapy, 3 times natural therapy and chemotherapy, till now, I hardly felt any side effects. Chemotherapy here is quite different from chemotherapy in Malaysia, they are not the same. Chinese herbs are included to protect liver and kidney from side effects. Once I finished chemotherapy at one o'clock, I was back to Sabah at five, and I did not feel any uncomfortable in the whole process. I know many people lost their hair after chemotherapy, but I did not lose my hair, instead the original bare place in my head grew some new hair." Nowadays, Chong Fui Min’s life has returned to normal and he is now in a stable condition which only requires regular revisit to hospital.

The couple and medical staff

During his stay in St. Stamford Modern Cancer Hospital Guangzhou, what left him most impressive was the considerate service. "Doctors and nurses here are very kind and friendly, and sometimes they are also humorous; they like to make jokes, which makes me forget that I am a cancer patient. Many thanks to them. So long as I ask them for help, they always come to me very soon. I have been to five Malaysian hospitals but I've never been treated like this and the medical technology here is very advanced."Chong Fui Min says.
